HECETU ALO (I Say This)
Name:
Sir Harrison - AZ I think the talented Sir Harrison is reminding listeners to vote for their favorite N8V artists at the Native American Music Awards site which you can do by clicking here. Sir Harrison is nominated ... as is the also very giftted Jason Chamakese (see below) ... so ... ya know ... take a few minutes and make your voice heard! **** Hey Arlie...I'm so thankful to you for featuring my music on your program, I look forward to submitting more material to your program in the future... thanks again, and many blessings to you. www.myspace.com/jasonchamakese
Jason Chamakese - Chitek Lake, Saskatchewan I recently purchased a new car through GM and have 'stumbled'
onto your program on XM satellite radio and I
LOVE IT. As a First Nations/Native American, I am VERY PROUD to know that
this program is being offered! My 18 year old daughter loves this
program too! We will jump in the car, go pick up my mom and drive around for
an hour just to listen to your program! Keep up the awesome work! It is
great to see a Native American woman Rose - British Columbia, Canada
Chii Miigwetch for your encouraging words, Rose! It is such an honor for me to have the opportunity to present our varied (and many!) First Nations cultures in a good way through music, a medium that speaks to every heart! **** play time too short 1HR, what would it take to get more air time? A. Lopez - Texas
Ya know, I get asked that a lot. If you'd
like to hear more Hand Of Grandfather, you'll have to contact the folks at
XM and let 'em know how ya feel about the show ... You can send an email to
the Program Director at XM's Fine Tuning ---
just
click here **** Your Christmas show was the best Christmas music I've heard anywhere. Your show makes XM worth every penny of it. Who is the artist and what is the title of your Theme song. I know you have played it but I missed it. Thanks for another great year of music. Jeff Johnston - Parowan, Utah
Jeff ... thanks so much for your encouraging words! The song segments you hear at the opening and close of Hand Of Grandfather is called Msit Nokamaq which means 'All My Relations' in the Mi'kmaq language. You can find this song on the CD Mawio'mi from one of my favorite groups, Medicine Dream. ****
The Christmas program was wonderful. Being a
retired church musician I enjoyed the different renditions of the Christmas
Carols. Oh, loved "The Twelve Days of Christmas" too.. lol.. Mary Lou Maxwell-Ornellas - Fleming, Colorado **** I'm a war veteran from Somalia...and I love that song, Machine Gun Sons, from Dwayne Pamajewon - Patriotism. Can you kindly play it for me please. This is for all my battle buddies!!! Btw, I love your station.
Brian Wilmot - Rhode Island
I try to listen to your programs when I stay
up Layne Mike - New Mexico **** Great music!! Heard it for the first time and enjoyed it. ;-) just wish it was on 24/7 and 365 days a year. Cyah - Dine' Nation, New Mexico **** You need your own channel. It would be nice to hear all the Native American music 24/7. Kim Huling - Texas

It's an honor, Mr. Ahhaitty! **** Where's the 'Wise Old Man' song by Dwayne Pamajewon - Patriotism CD Steve Beausoleil - New York
You're right, Steve ... it's been too long since I played that one... so look for it on upcoming show #160 ... **** Hey Arlie, listen to your show all the time and really enjoy it. Fell in love with Jimmy Lee Young's "Apache" the other night! Have to get it! Keep up the good work. Starfire - Indiana **** Hi again Arlie, At the end of last nights program I was so excited when I heard you announce, Iz, and the Birthright of the Hawaiian Nation.. I called my husband to come quick and listen. He did, with tears in his eyes.. Born and raised on Maui , family still there, it brought back memories to him. We have a lot of Iz's songs on our I tunes... and just enjoy them so much. My mom always said , " the good die young", as did Iz...
Such a great loss to the Hawaiian culture..
Mary lou and Harold Ornellas - Colorado ****

The Year" & Daniel Hicks for "Native Heart" at the Native American Music

to my Celtic roots. With words so meaningful and
melodys that brought tears to my eyes.. Thank
you ...
Mary lou Maxwell-Ornellas - Colorado XM should devote a channel to The First Nations.. not just 1 hour a week.. let it be.. Owlshadow - Arkansas **** I LOVE Hand of Grandfather!!! I like when you play the native drums. Our Lenapè Village of the Whispering Wolves has a great drum although they do not have any recordings. They are good! Wish XM would have you on for more than just twice a week
and for ONLY 1 hour! How about a whole
channel for Hand of Grandfather. ALL Native American music ALL the
time!! Whitedove - Pennsylvania
Aniin, Whitedove ... thanks so much for your kind and encouraging words! Just want to let you know that a Special Edition of Hand Of Grandfather is coming up that you may really enjoy ... per a listener request ... Program #149 features only powwow and tradish music ... should be hitting the XM airwaves about mid-August so keep your ears peeled for HOG #149! *handshake* ****
That 'red nations - all blues hour' was so great! Sir Harrison and the Blues Kings were just vish! Do it again, woman! Albert R. - South Dakota **** Arlie, great stuff, need more, more, more ...loved the "all blues" show. We're on the road again and can't wait for Fridays and Sundays. Love, Mary & Martin - Inman, South Carolina ****
The Hand of Grandfather is evident in His
namesake. I'm sure you feel His touch, just as we who listen do, as
well. Thank you for sharing this world. In turn, I want to share this
with you: The Wayfairer - North Carolina **** Hello, I recently came across your show on XM and I'm hooked! I found it beautiful and inspiring- the music literally gave me chills.
I, too, would like to hear more- I will
let XM know. Thanks! **** I love your show, I look forward to your show, just wish XM would have you on longer than an hour.
The variety of music is awesome. Keep up the
great work. **** I just heard the show for the first time and enjoyed it very much! After hearing you talk about the art work of Bunky Echo-Hawk, I had to take a look. I would like to thank you both for presenting all of the native artists (musical and visual). And I agree with you that
Bunky has a keen sense of humor. ****
Arlie, truly love and enjoy your show. Wish I could
hear the show more often. Especially the Buffy songs. Glad to read the
explanation of what Hand of Grandfather means. Happy day, all. Hands up for everything. May your spirits be strong and you be provided for. Thank you for being here for everyone. I hope many more will find you to listen to.
Katherine J. Ward - Washington I listen to your show every week and enjoy it very much. I just wish it was longer because to me one hour is too short.
Keep up the good work and I'll keep
listening. **** As a truck driver listening to your program is great. My wife and I listen to your show and the repeat show every week we are on the road. We just wish XM would give you
more air time. Keep up the good work. native music has made it on XM. Thank you for following your dreams. From a past friend in Dulce. Jason T. Vigil - New Mexico c Oh my goodness, Jason ... of course, I remember you! Well, I only have one friend in Dulce, NM! *grin* Thank you for your sweet words and your support and I hope good things are always coming your way also! *handshake*
**** I listen to you every week and I have my own web site for my families genealogy and I have you there so people can link to you so they too can enjoy this. Please never stop. Roaming Buffalo - Georgia **** He' Arlie, Hello from the Eastern Woodlands (sadly more concrete and blacktop now, it seems) Anyway, it is great to hear your show! And a big... Thank you (WANISHI) for playing Spirit Wing's music. Barry Lee - Pennsylvania **** Need to air more often. Shawn - Ohio
Thanks for the encouragement, Shawn! (I'm guessing you mean more airtime for Hand Of Grandfather, not airing myself more often... ha ha!) That decision would be made by the nice people at XM so feel free to put the friendly pressure on! **** My wife and I love your program on XM on Friday nights. We are in Southern Utah in the winter but also listen to you on XM in the summer in Northern Minnesota. You have a great mix and a good flow in your Programming. My only problem with the show is it's too short. Could you add a hour? Hey you're on Indian time so just don't end it so early. Thanks for the great evening. Jeff - Utah
**** catch some excellent Native American programming on our local Jicarilla Apache Nation station. Ralph Hamilton - New Mexico
Thank you very much, Ralph! You're lucky to have local NDN programming nearby... One of my favorite stations is KILI in South Dakota but I can only get it when I go up that direction! **** I had the pleasure of stumbling onto your program last evening. I was spellbound by the flute as it spoke to my heart. Teresa - Texas **** O'siyo! Hi Arlie. I listen to your show while I'm on the road. Just wish ya had more air time. I'm mixed blood, Algonquin/French. Anyway, great show sister. Blessings. Donna - Texas **** We love your program here in Northern Alabama , where I imagine all the time that the spirits of the ancestors speak. Best wishes.
Darlene - Alabama in Atlanta, GA - ATL! It's nice to feel home again... Talisa - Georgia **** Hello there once again. This week's show was great. The only thing better than a hand of grandfather show is a 2 hour special. Thank you for making it possible to hear your show. A faithful listener, MIIGWETCH! John - Texas **** I happened on to your show, great. It struck a chord I had not known existed. Viggo Jensen - California

Maryline
- France We're proud to be part of your show!
Thanks for putting us out there. the finals for this year Grammys but did not get nominated. Maybe next year... Keep on jammin... Nino Reyos - Utah
Nino put out a great CD with Redhawk 'The
Songs Remember'... Congrats on making Grammy finals!! Just checking out your site. Lookin' good! Martin Knifechief - Colorado **** I love the Hand of Grandfather show. I did notice on the playlist a couple of well known flute players are
"$elf declared" and not affiliated with any tribe. B. Harjo - Oklahoma
Douglas Blue Feather does affiliate himself with the Cherokee Nation and my general rule is to play tribally 'affiliated', not necessarily 'enrolled'... and you are absolutely correct in regards to Mr. Spotted Eagle. The only times I have ever played his music is when it involved another affiliated artist (ex. "The Beauty Way' with James Bilagody)... While there is a place in the world for 'Native Heart' music (non-Indian persons playing 'Native Style' music), it is my intention to make HOG a place to promote only the efforts of indigenous musicians. Thank you for listening (and I don't mind being watch-dogged or being corrected... if you see something else that looks or sounds questionable, let me know!) ~Arlie P.S. Love the dollar sign in '$elf-declared'! **** Arlie...Hau Kola....From all of us at Oyate Music Recordings...congrats on a GREAT show and website! New music is coming your way from Oyate Music! Keep up the good work! Mitakuye Oyasin (we are all related) Tony Palmer / President - Oyate - New Mexico
Oyate honored Hand Of Grandfather as the 'Site Of The Month' in December. You can see it here: http://www.oyatemusic.com/Native_American_Music/site-o-da-month-page.htm Miigwech, Tony! **** hand of grandfather is the bomba!
Sigangu Sun - Colorado Your show really was cool! I just love your mix of music,
had no idea native american music was this diverse! Good to hear Hand Of Grandfather on the air! Buffy is around playing Canadian & US dates. To check out what she is up to you can go to http://www.paquinentertainment.com Wayne Lavallee - Vancouver, B.C
This is a different link than I have listed on the Artists' Links page but will leave it here in case this one is better! BTW, Wayne Lavallee is also an Indigenous entertainer and has some pretty good chops himself ! Listen for Wayne on Hand Of Grandfather! ~Arlie ****
Thank you for an excellent program. We are encouraged by your production and
hope that XM Radio will soon have a channel dedicated to programming like
yours, full time. ****
Arlie, your web site is great!! faithfully listen to your show every
weekend. Can you let us know what Hand of Grandfather means?
Hi, Ed! So good to hear from you!! To answer your question, the Lakota refer to Creator as Tunkasila (Toong-KAH-shee-lah) which means Grandfather. The name Hand Of Grandfather refers to the touch of the Creator in all things... I feel this touch in many, many ways but most often when I hear music... and hope that HOG listeners do too! ~Arlie **** |
